English Language Assistant in Italy
Live and Teach in Italy!
This program is designed from citizens of countries where English is their Native Language. You will be placed in a private or public school around Italy, as a classroom language assistant.
As an assistant, you will become a member of staff of the school you are placed in, taking part in daily lessons and having a timetable drafted for you at the start of the school year.
Your life in the school will be just like any other teacher, work 5 days a week and the rest of the time is yours to settle in and explore life in Italy!
What You'll Be Doing & Where You Can Go
Details of the Program
We are looking for Native Speakers to join Italian classrooms and Teach English alongside the main teacher. You will become an integral part of everyday classrooms, joining several classes of different ages for their English classes. Your role will be very active in supporting the main teacher where needed, but importantly, facilitating conversation amongst students, getting them speaking in casual conversation, helping with pronunciation, spelling and other activities.
This program aims not only to help Italian students break out of their comfort zone, but yourself also! This is an opportunity to learn what it’s like to live in Italian culture, learn the Italian language and teach abroad.
While classroom experience isn’t required, nor is the Italian language. There are some requirements:
- Applicants must be between 20-35 at time of the program
- Must be a Native English Speaker from Australia, Canada, Fiji, Malta, New Zealand, the Republic of Ireland, Solomon Islands, South Africa, Tonga, the United Kingdom, the United States of America, and Vanuatu
- Hold a University Degree or currently be in your second year of a degree or equivalent program
- Clean background, police and Working with Children check
Teaching Skills: Speaking, Reading, Pronunciation
Engaging students in conversation, helping students write and construct sentences.
You will be on the floor in the classroom going around to encourage students to speak with you and each other. Trying to get students to speak confidently and train pronunciation.
Support Teachers in Their Lessons
Being a teacher's assistant in anything they need; directing the class, creating assignments, marking homework etc.
Your role will be versatile. Beyond being the teacher’s side each day. You will also help with developing tests and projects, marking homework and giving suggestions on how students can improve their English.
Sharing your Culture & Extra Curricular Activities
Taking part in excursions and creating cultural events outside of usual lessons.
Just as you are, your students will also be interested in where you come from and learning about culture and life in your country. As such, you will be encouraged to integrate discussions and events from your culture, and participate in Italian culture events. You may also be asked to come along with the students on their out of classroom activities.
